黑暗三角人格是先天遗传，还是后天决定的？
心理学对双胞胎进行研究，试图了解遗传和环境因素在黑暗三角人格发展上的相对贡献。经过对比研究，心理学家发现，黑暗三角人格的不同构成，具有不同的遗传特性：
精神变态和自恋具有更高的遗传因素，而马基雅维利主义遗传性更低。
总的来说，遗传并不是黑暗三角人格发展的决定性因素。任何人从小处于特殊的环境中，都可能发展出黑暗三角人格。
例如，在孩子人格形成的关键时期，儿童和青少年时期，家庭内部环境处于一个「不与兄弟姐妹分享」的长期状态时，便有利于黑暗三角人格的形成。具有更高精神变态和自恋遗传因素的个人，会更容易发展出相应特质。但对于马基雅维利主义来说，不同的人并不会表现出明显的差距。
总的来说，虽然先天会影响黑暗三角人格的发展，但后天环境起到决定性的作用。
