在历史长河中款款走来
迁西板栗源远流长、历史悠久
迁西板栗栽培源远流长，已有2000多年的历史。《诗经·东门之墠》曰：“东门之栗，有践家室。岂不尔思？子不我即”。《战国策》苏秦游说燕文侯：“燕国……北有枣栗之利，民虽不田作而足于枣栗矣。”《史记·货殖列传》称：“燕秦千树栗，此其皆千户侯等。”这里的“北”“燕秦”指的就是迁西一带。
迁西板栗之名，众多历史典故均有记载。汉武帝刘彻迎娶李夫人，以枣、栗子等五色果撒帐，“早立子”习俗自此传承，迁西被命名为中国早立子（枣栗子）民俗文化起源地。唐太宗李世民东征高句丽粮草不济，行至迁西令军士蒸栗为食，借以饱腹。明代徐达在迁西喜峰口修长城时进贡板栗，朱元璋得知当地以栗富足，遂下诏曰“广植枣栗、以备欠年”。清康熙帝品尝迁西板栗后，龙颜大悦命“年年贡之”。
迁西板栗之优，是享誉全国的金字招牌。迁西板栗与其它地区的板栗相比，最突出的特点是色泽鲜艳、质地硬实、味道甜糯。“迁西板栗”是国家商标局认定全国板栗行业中第一个中国驰名商标，被评为最具竞争力的地理标志商标，获评为消费者喜爱果品品牌，品牌价值达到30.25亿元。迁西板栗、紫玉、栗之花商标被评为中国驰名商标。
迁西板栗之美，得到毛主席的高度赞扬。1951年9月底，“冀东兵妈妈”吴凯素受到邀请参加国庆观礼。9月30日晚上，在怀仁堂举行国庆招待会，吴凯素向毛主席表达了迁西人民的敬意，并拿出3斤板栗献给毛主席，毛主席说：“延安人民用小米养活了我们，冀东人民用栗子养活了八路军，我要谢谢你们呦！”听得老妈妈热泪盈眶，回来后把自家所有的山地都种上了板栗树。

迁西历届县委、县政府高度重视板栗产业发展，不断加大政策、资金等扶持力度，深化与北京林业大学等院校科研合作，加强种质资源保护、合作开发板栗系列产品，加快促进板栗产业迭代升级，全力推动板栗产业高质量发展。
优越的自然条件，造就了迁西板栗卓越品质。迁西有最适应板栗生长的土地，山地表层属极易风化的片麻岩，结构疏松，含铁量高，呈微酸性反应，通气透水性好，为板栗生长提供了优越的条件。迁西有最适宜板栗生长的降水，地势为东南季风的迎风面，常年降水量在800毫米左右，且雨季多集中在7、8两个月份，降水周期恰好满足栗果速生期对水份的需求。迁西有最适合板栗生长的气温，昼夜温差大，气温昼高夜低，有利于光合作用，有利于果实的糖分积累。
丰富的营养含量，提升了迁西板栗实用价值。板栗素有“干果之王”的美称。《名医别录》记载：“栗子益气，厚肠胃，补肾气。”《本草纲目》记载“栗治肾虚、腰脚无力，能通肾益气，厚胃肠也。”经科学测定，迁西板栗营养丰富，果仁富含蛋白质、碳水化合物、膳食纤维、胡萝卜素及对人体有益的多种微量元素和氨基酸，尤以VC、VE和铁、钙含量最高，利于人体的指标居各地板栗之首，可以防治高血压病、冠心病、动脉硬化、骨质疏松等疾病，能够抗衰老、延年益寿。
先进的生产模式，塑造了迁西板栗优质品牌。近年来，迁西探索积累并推广优种嫁接、科学修剪、放炮扩穴、花期喷硼、栗粮问作、矮密早丰、病虫害防治等一整套树上树下管理新技术，使迁西板栗的栽培管理逐步走向了园田化、规范化、科学化、集约化的轨道，全县75万亩板栗基地全部通过了河北省无公害果品产地认证，其中10万亩通过了日本农林水产省JAS有机认证。相继取得国家、省(部)、市级科研成果20余项，板栗良种选育与应用技术研究项目获国家科技进步奖，燕山早丰、燕山魁栗、燕山短枝3个品种获国家科研成果奖。

Qianxi, home to chestnut, is located at the southern foot of Yanshan Mountains and the foot of the Great Wall, covering 1460.7 square kilometers and serving a total of 39,4000 people. Qianxi boasts 750,000 mu of land where plant 50 million chestnut trees with an annual output of 80,000 tons and a comprehensive output value of 2.5 billion yuan. Qianxi is recognized as the core production area of Jingdong Chestnut and the largest chestnut export base nationwide.
Qianxi Chestnut Survives History’s Long Journey.
Qianxi has the longest history of growing chestnut. The chestnut was referred to in the poem An Open Space Near the East Entrance collected in the Book of Songs. InStratagems of the Warring States, Su Qin told Marquis Wen: “the Yan State boasts chestnuts in the northern part. People don’t have to farm but live on them.” In Biographies of merchants ofRecords of The Grand Historian recorded: “anyone who has a thousand chestnut trees in the Yan or Qin State is as wealthy as a Marquis who is privileged to collect tax from a thousand households.”The Yan and the Qin states are nowadays Qianxi.
The reference of Qianxi chestnut is made in many historical records. When Emperor Wu of Han Liu Che and Lady Li got married, their bridal chamber was decorated with dates and chestnuts, meaning the newlywed couple were expected to have a baby soon. Qianxi is thus known as the birthplace of this folklore. When Emperor Taizong of Tang launched an expedition to Gaogouli, the army was suffered from food shortage. The soldiers were commanded to march to Qianxi and feed on chestnuts. When building the Great Wall at Xifengkou in Qianxi, Xu Da of the Ming Dynasty paid tribute to Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang with chestnuts. Knowing that Qianxi was rich in chestnuts, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhuang issued an edict to grow date trees and chestnut trees in case of crop failure. The Qian Long Emperor of the Qing Dynasty was greatly pleased by chestnuts and ordered his subjects to make chestnut as a tribute since.
Qianxi chestnut is well-known all across China. It outperforms other chestnuts by being brightly colored, a soft texture and sweet flavor. “Qianxi Chestnut” is now the only famous chestnut brand registered at the Trademark Office. It is recognized as one the most competitive geographic indications and one of the most popular fruit brands with a brand value of 302.5 billion yuan. The trademarks of Qianxi Chestnut, Purple Jade and Chestnut Flower are awarded as Chinese well-known trademarks.
Chairman Mao Zedong also spoke highly of Qianxi chestnut. In late September 1951, Wu Kaisu, who was known as Soldiers’ Mother in Jidong, was invited to attend the National Day Ceremony. On the night before the ceremony, the National Day Reception was held in Huairen Hall, where Wu Kaisu, to express Qianxi people’s respect to Chairman Mao, brought him 1.5 kilograms of Qianxi chestnut. He was grateful and said: “People in Yan’an supported the whole country with millet and people in Jidong supported the Eighth Route Army with chestnut.” Wu’s eyes swam with tears. After she went back, she grew chestnut trees on all her fields.
Qianxi Chestnut Has the Peculiar Qualifications of Growth
Qianxi County Party Committee and People’s Government have attached great importance to the development of chestnut industry. Continuous efforts have been made in increasing the support of policies and funds, deepening scientific research cooperation with institutions such as Beijing Forestry University, strengthening the protection of germplasm resources, and developing new chestnut series products, so as to quicken the pace to upgrade the chestnut industry and promote its high-quality development.
Favorable natural conditions account for the high quality of Qianxi chestnut. Qianxi has the most suitable soil to grow chestnut. Yanshan Mountains are composed of gneiss which, despite of being prone to efflorescence, is rich in iron, and has slightly acidic reaction and good ventilation and permeability. The precipitation of Qianxi is another advantage, as it is located at the windward side of southeast monsoon. The annual precipitation is around 800 mm, and the rainy season is mostly in July and August, the same period when chestnuts grow the fastest. The temperature in Qianxi is appropriate as well. A large temperature difference between day and night is conductive to photosynthesis and the accumulation of sugar in the fruit.
Rich nutrition makes Qianxi chestnut more valuable. The chestnut is known as the “king of dried fruits”. As was recorded in theFamous Medical Record, “the chestnut can replenish qi, strengthen enterogastric function and get rid of erysipelas.” It has been scientifically determined that Qianxi chestnut is rich in such nutrition as protein, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, carotene and many kinds of trace elements and amino acids that are beneficial to human, the content of which is higher than that in other chestnuts. It is especially high in VC, VE, iron and calcium. Qianxi chestnut is said to be capable of preventing hypertension, coronary heart disease, arteriosclerosis, osteoporosis and other diseases, postponing aging and prolonging life.
Advanced production models help create the best Qianxi chestnut brand. In recent years, Qianxi has explored and applied elsewhere new techniques of tree management such as grafting excellent seed, pruning in a scientific way, expanding the plant hole, spraying boron during flowering, intensive cultivation, pest and disease control, etc. With chestnuts grown in the plantation, the cultivation and management of chestnuts in Qianxi are more scientific-based and intensified, and have more standards to follow. The total of 750,000 mu of chestnut production area in Qianxi county were certified the pollution-free fruit production area of Hebei Province, among which 100, 000 mu was awarded the JAS organic certificates of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan. Qianxi chestnut has won more than 20 scientific research achievements at national, provincial (ministry) and municipal levels. The project of selecting and breeding good chestnut seeds and their application won the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Three varieties, namely Yanshan Zaofeng, Yanshan Kuili and Yanshan Duanzhi chestnuts were awarded the National Scientific Research Achievement Award.
